    PBIS Implementation and Sustainability: Primary Educators’ Perspectives of Success

    Today the school-wide behavior management program, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, or PBIS, follows the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework when addressing students with behavior challenges in general education classrooms. PBIS provides a collaborative framework of problem solving and evidence-based strategies, thus proactively meeting students’ overall needs. The purpose of this study is to fill a gap in the literature pertaining to teacher perspectives of using PBIS practices in their classroom across this framework. This dissertation further details implications for training and professional development concerning school-wide PBIS as well as the organizational structures necessary for success in the classroom. As a result, this study analyzes teacher perspectives of PBIS classroom implementation, challenges, and successes, taking place in one K-8 school. Administrative and problem solving teams support and professional development were examined across three primary educators. Meaningful data was then generated describing how teachers perceive the PBIS processes implemented in their classrooms.     Total synthesis and biological evaluation of the tetramic acid based natural product harzianic acid and its stereoisomers

    Financial support for this project was provided by Cancer Research UK (Grant No. C21383/A6950)The bioactive natural product harzianic acid was prepared for the first time in just six steps (longest linear sequence) with an overall yield of 22%. The identification of conditions to telescope amide bond formation and a Lacey-Dieckmann reaction into one pot proved important. The three stereoisomers of harzianic acid were also prepared, providing material for comparison of their biological activity. While all of the isomers promoted root growth, improved antifungal activity was unexpectedly associated with isomers in the enantiomeric series opposite that of harzianic acid.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

    #Cervidellus vexilliger, actuellement espÚce type du genre #Ypsylonellus, est redécrit et un néotype est désigné parmi les spécimens d'un échantillon collecté dans la localité type : Haagse Bos, Pays-Bas. Une autre espÚce trÚs proche, correspondant à la diagnose de #C. neftasiensis, était également présente dans cet échantillon. La description originale de #C. vexilliger et les nouveaux spécimens provenant de la localité type suggÚrent que #C. vexilliger est conspécifique de #C. serratus. #C. serratus est donc synonymisé avec #C. vexilliger et #Ypsilonellus est synonymisé avec #Cervidellus.     A versatile multistep continuous flow setup is reported for the four-step conversion of anilines into pyrazole products. The synthesis machine incorporates the use of amine-redox chemistry through diazotization and a metal-free vitamin C mediated reduction.     Molecular epidemiologic investigations of Mycoplasma gallisepticum conjunctivitis in songbirds by random amplified polymorphic DNA analyses.

    An ongoing outbreak of conjunctivitis in free-ranging house finches (Carpodacus mexicanus) began in 1994 in the eastern United States. Bacterial organisms identified as Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) were isolated from lesions of infected birds. MG was also isolated from a blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) that contracted conjunctivitis after being housed in a cage previously occupied by house finches with conjunctivitis, and from free-ranging American goldfinches (Carduelis tristis) in North Carolina in 1996. To investigate the molecular epidemiology of this outbreak, we produced DNA fingerprints of MG isolates by random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD). We compared MG isolates from songbirds examined from 1994 through 1996 in 11 states, representing three host species, with vaccine and reference strains and with contemporary MG isolates from commercial poultry. All MG isolates from songbirds had RAPD banding patterns identical to each other but different from other strains and isolates tested. These results indicate that the outbreak of MG in songbirds is caused by the same strain, which suggests a single source; the outbreak is not caused by the vaccine or reference strains analyzed; and MG infection has not been shared between songbirds and commercial poultry

    Enabling Technologies for the Future of Chemical Synthesis.

    Technology is evolving at breakneck pace, changing the way we communicate, travel, find out information, and live our lives. Yet chemistry as a science has been slower to adapt to this rapidly shifting world. In this Outlook we use highlights from recent literature reports to describe how progresses in enabling technologies are altering this trend, permitting chemists to incorporate new advances into their work at all levels of the chemistry development cycle.
